I was down in Islamorada, Florida, staying at a resort. While exploring the Florida Keys, Loco Coco wanted to stop for lunch at Wahoo’s Bar and Grill. The statue was the first thing that caught my eye to write this article.

In front of the restaurant and dock was this statue of a hammerhead shark with scuba diving gear. I find it hilarious, considering sharks breathe water the last time I checked. According to RoadsideArchitecture.com, the fiberglass shark was installed outside the restaurant in 2019, so it is not long ago. It has had a fin broken off since then. In place is a stub painted yellow with messages scrawled on it. I do not have information on whether or not it was broken off because of vandalism or storm-related issues.

As for the restaurant itself, Wahoo’s Bar and Grill is built above the Whale Harbor Marina, with a nice view of the dock and the Atlantic Ocean. Their menu options range from conch to mahi mahi and even the fish itself, wahoo fish. Of course, being in the Florida Keys, the dessert offered there is a Key Lime Pie.

I definitely recommend this as a pit stop if you are passing through Islamorada for a funny photo with the shark statue, a quick dine, and a lovely view of the dockside. Also, if you are looking for a theme that day in the area, they also have a museum dedicated to diving. Stay tuned for the next article discussing the History of Diving Museum in Islamorada.
