We head back to Sleepy Hollow Cemetery for more stories. There is more to tell other than a Headless Horseman or a burial vault used for a movie. Here are some more stories from the cemetery

This Story Has a Leg to Stand On
In the Barney mausoleum, 14 and a quarter are interred here…..wait 14 and a quarter? You read that right. The story goes that one of the family members had a leg amputated by a train. Expecting the guy not to live, they interred the leg in the family mausoleum. Fortunately, the guy lived and lived for many years! He died in old age and is buried in another cemetery. However, his leg remains in Sleepy Hollow.

The Grave of William Rockefeller
Given that Kykuit is in Sleepy Hollow, it should be no surprise that a Rockefeller would be buried here. William Rockefeller was the younger brother of John Rockefeller, who founded Standard Oil in 1882. He, along with the Rockefellers, was key to creating a strong business empire in the late 19th century and early 20th century. He is buried in this grand mausoleum that is the size of a house.

The Grave of Andrew Carnegie
Another well-known business titan from the Industrial Revolution is buried here. Andrew Carnegie was head of the Steel Industry in America and among the wealthiest. He also did philanthropic work, mainly focused on education. He also started public libraries and had buildings named after him. While many view his charitable efforts as endearing, it did not avoid some criticisms from individuals, such as the Johnstown Flood of 1889 or the 1892 Homestead Strike. He and his wife are buried here in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery and are still remembered as one of the wealthiest men in American history.
There are many more stories and burials to cover, but here are some of the stories and famous burials.
