We are back at Tolemado Cemetery in St. Augustine. Don’t worry no one is going to blow up this time. We are done with the bishop and are leaving him to rest in pieces. Instead, we are here for three ghost stories and alleged sightings.

The Ghost Bride

Over the years, many people have reported seeing a woman in white gliding across cemetery grounds. Legend says it is the spirit of a woman who died one week before her wedding. Her family decided to bury her with her wedding gown.

The Corpse That Bled

A woman had seemingly passed away. As part of a funeral tradition, the precession would have the corpse seated on a chair and carried through the cemetery. A long hanging branch of the Apopinax tree scratched the corpse’s face and drew blood. The procession stopped. Corpses don’t bleed. Living people do! She was alive! Immediately, they rushed her to bed and had a doctor come in.

Unfortunately, due to a lack of medical advancement to give a proper death diagnosis, premature burials were a little more common back then as in rare cases it was hard to tell if someone was dead or just in a coma. Some cemeteries had a bell installed with the grave as a safety measure. If the corpse ever awakened, it could be dug out immediately.

In some versions of the story, the woman wakes up in time as her coffin is being buried.

The Little Boy Who Wanders The Cemetery

In 1877, a little boy named James was playing in the cemetery when he tragically fell from a tree and broke his neck. Afterward, his mother swore she would sometimes pass the graveyard and see James sitting in an oak tree. At first, the residents thought it was grief until they started seeing the boy too.

These are just the quick little tales that are more to Tolomato Cemetery other than the exploding bishop.
