Getting a Big Head As We Are

A couple months ago, I took a trip to the World Oddities Expo in Columbus. The event was held in the Greater Columbus Convention Center. It was bustling as there were other conventions and a graduation going on that day aside from the expo. Right near the exhibit hall to the expo in the North Atrium, the convention center had its own unique oddity. A 14 foot tall head with giant faces shown on it. This is an art installation called As We Are.
Why is there a giant head?
This art installation was made by artist Mathew More and installed in 2015. He was an artist and graphic designer native to Columbus. More was also a professor at Columbus College of Art and Design. The purpose of As We Are is to reflect the Columbus population and visitors to the Greater Columbus Convention Center. Not only is it an art installation, but it also doubles as a photo booth.
How does it work?
Visitors can enter a booth from behind the head. In the booth cameras surround the user and a touch pad is set up. After the photo is taken the person’s face would be shown on the LED panels. The photos are 17 times the size of an average human face. Every minute or so the photos would cycle through showing another face representing people that came through the convention center.
So my take away is Columbus is a very unique place for weirdos and artists.I definitely recommend it as a visit. It would make a funny vacation photo.
Also, while researching I found out Matthew More passed away in 2025. He left a 14 foot impact behind in Columbus.
