In 1902, the St. Johnthee Baptist Catholic Church was built. Throughout the decades, the church faced many unfortunate events, including a fire in 1915 and the Spanish influenza. Church attendance dwindled until it finally closed its doors in 1993. Then, in 1994, Sean Casey purchased the restaurant to turn it into a brewery. Today, the former Catholic Church is now a brewery called The Church Brew Works. Aside from the patrons occupying the former church/brewery, the spirits are said to be there as well.

Spanish Flu Victims

Among the Spanish Flu victims, one is believed to be a woman named Marcella Helena Day, who is said to be the Lady in White haunting the building. In life, she was an eighteen-year-old student and parishioner. An employee reported seeing her go into a dark storage room, with no one there. She has also been spotted near the altar.

Spirits and a guy named Bob

Every time the building was under construction or undergoing refurbishment, activity would stir. Power tools would randomly go on and off. Kitchen staff also reported a spirit they named Bob, who would tug on the staff.

All the activity led Sean to reach out to TAPS (The Atlantic Paranormal Society), which came for an episode of Ghost Hunters in 2021. During the investigation, they heard footsteps following them and a few voice recordings.

Conclusion

Whether or not you believe in the spirits haunting this church, it is still worth visiting for the food and beer! I recommend the German Mac and Cheese!
